South Korean ports handled a total of 2.282 million TEUs of containers in August, which increased 5.7% year on year from 2.16 million TEUs, according to a report compiled by the nation’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF).

 

Looking at throughput at major ports, Busan was responsible for 1.702 million TEUs, which improved 4.3%. In breakdown, exports and imports climbed 7.1% to 842,000 TEUs in total, as those to and from major trade partners remained massive. Transshipment (T/S) containers grew 1.8% to 860,000 TEUs, as services had been stabilized since alliances were realigned. 

Container lifting hiked 6% to 191,000 TEUs at Kwangyang. T/S containers surged 68.4% to 50,000 TEUs, as compatriot carriers had launched full-fledged services, although exports and imports decreased 6.2% to a total of 141,000 TEUs.
