The change is effective for all Bills of Lading dated on or after 23rd April 2017. Accordingly, ANL will no longer invoice customers for the service tax where freight is to be prepaid.

K-LINE: Customer Advisory – India Service Tax

Pursuant to the Government of India Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) Notifications No. 13/2017-Service Tax through 15/2017-Service Tax, the India Service Tax can no longer be Prepaid at origin by the Shipper regardless of the payment terms of the ocean freight charges on the bill of lading. The India Service Tax must be paid at destination by the Importer.
